A Canvas of Evergreen: Creative Inspiration

The smell of pine is in the air, and the soft boughs of the Christmas tree beckon to be decorated in strings of popcorn, and ornaments that have seen more years than any of the generations placing them on the branches.

It’s a yearly tradition, and one that we relish with glee, especially now that the boys are old enough to understand it all.

Our tree is an empty canvas ready to be painted with decades of memories, twinkling colors and the sparkling of glass.

As I unwrap each ornament from the safety of tissue paper and boxes, memories flood my brain. “Remember when,” I say to my husband and we smile in unison. The boys look upon each dangling bauble with wonderous eyes longing to hear the story behind each one. The littlest one yelling “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas.”

It’s enough to make my heart burst.

We place each memory carefully on the branches. Adjusting, looking for the perfect perch from which to display each precious ornament. The balance of decorations must pefect, not too many too high or low, or in the front or back. The placement of lights takes great care and concentration.

And when the last decoration has been hung we take a step back and admire our glowing masterpiece, and  I smile at all the memories that combined to make such a glorious sight.

Now it’s your turn to light up your creativity, you can…

Write a post.

Paint a picture.

Snap a photo.

Create an ornament.

Head over to our Facebook page for today’s prompt, and don’t forget starting next week we will be hosting the Write Before Christmas. Don’t miss this creative holiday tradition.

Bigger Picture Captures

from the  pool of shots by Alita Jewels Treasures

Often just like writing, inspiration for a photo comes immediate and you simply must capture the moment. Other times picture taking is less inspired.

In the spirit of creativity that is being nourished here on this site and in your hearts, we’re bringing back Bigger Picture Captures.

Each Wednesday a thought, a word, or a moment will be shared and you will have the opportunity to capture the creativity with your lens and share it.

No need to worry about blogging it (unless you want to of course) or linking it up. All you have to do is Tweet it, facebook it, or Instagram it.

We know that a lot of you are participating in the P365 or P52 challenges. This is  a little more creative inspiration to get your camera out and take a picture of something different.

Use #BPCaptures anywhere you are collecting your pictures, and get ready to CREATE!

Today’s prompt for Bigger Picture Captures is Giving Thanks.

How will you capture Giving Thanks- Show us! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Writing Me: A Writing Tradition {Melissa}

‘Tis the season of hayrides and pumpkin pies, costumes and candy corn, drifting leaves that turn into falling snow and crisp mornings with flannel sheets and chunky sweaters that lend way to days full of tradition. What does the word tradition make you think of? What does it make you feel? Is there a tradition you partake in every year, or one from your childhood that stands out?

Take the word TRADITION and tell us what it means to you.

Go where your words and recollections take you. A few lines, or dozens, in whatever form moves you, write as your heart responds to the prompt.

Today’s post comes to us from Melissa:

This time of year is all about traditions. Traditional celebrations, meals, rituals. We have a little tradition here at Bigger Picture Blogs, it’s something I personally look forward to every single year.  ‘Twas the write before Christmas  a writing and creativity event.

I love the five (or more) minutes of me time I get by participating in the event. I cherish the stories it brings out of me when I can just sit and think about the holidays and this seasons from different prompts.

All good traditions evolve and so has ours. This year we are giving you words and pictures, and we’re giving you a head start. Below you will find a list of all the prompts text portion. Pin it, share it, save it.

Starting on December 3 we will have the prompts post here, daily with a new picture related to the prompt. You can take your inspiration from the text or the picture or both! There will be a linky opened on each post where you can share how the prompt inspired you, in a words, in images, in butter cream frosting, however you are inspired.

In a time of year where the hustle and bustle of all that we have to do can sap us of all our creativity and inspiration this is a quick and easy way you can take some time to feed your creative soul and focus on what this season  means to you.

Happy creating!
