Note: Sorry this post is coming a little later than expected. We were having internet difficulties. Oh, developing countries…
Last week, we announced that Reading Circles is going to have a live session via Google+ hangout, where we can discuss the magic behind a bestselling book to see if we can uncover some of the secrets to engaging, gorgeous, and sharp writing.
We had a vote to see which book we would read. The contenders were:
Hold Love Strong
Aaron Goodman
About an extraordinary boy rising up out of crippling circumstances, through the love of his family who both hinder him and lift him up.
The Red Tent
Anita Diamant
Based on Dinah from the Bible – the tale that wasn’t told.
Room
Emma Donoghue
Told from the perspective of a very young child, locked with his mother in a room – how they escape, and the consequences of having one’s world explode and leaving everything you knew behind.
The Tenth Circle
Jodi Picoult
What happens when the worst hits your family, and the aftermath.
Gone Girl
Gillian Flynn
Marriage gone horrifically wrong, and the cops are closing in.
Epic Fail
Claire LaZebnik
Pride & Prejudice, high-school style.
It was a close one, tied between The Tenth Circle and Gone Girl, but the winner is…
So again, here are the details of Reading Circles goes LIVE session:
When: November 13, 8:00 p.m. CST
Where: In the comfort of your own home, via Google+ hangout
Who: Me and a group of 4-6 other book lovers
Why: Because reading is awesome
We are about at capacity, but we might have room for one more person if anyone else wants to join in.
But wait, there’s more!
Because it was so close, I would like to offer a SECOND Reading Circles goes LIVE session – via live chat!
This gives us the opportunity to try out a couple of different formats and see what works better for future. And we still get to discuss the runner up:
The Tenth Circle, by Jodi Picoult.
Here are the details:
When: Tuesday, December 4, 8 p.m. CST
Where: via a live chat room, details TBA
Who: Me and everyone and anyone
Why: Didn’t I mention reading is what all the cool kids do?
How: I will create a live chat room and post the login information here approximately one hour before we meet so anyone will be free to join in. Please leave a comment if you think you might join, so I can get a sense of how many people will participate.
Can’t wait to see you all there! Happy weekend everyone!
