Bigger Picture Moments: Hyacynth’s Thanks in Weakness

Every Thursday we come together to share the harvest of intentional living by capturing a glimpse of the bigger picture through a simple moment. Won’t you join us?

Simple BPM

In November we are serving our moments up with a main course of Gratitude.

I have danced in the darkness of my heart with worry and fear and selfishness.

And in the shadowy recesses of my heart those weaknesses have grown.

While thankfulness has doused the flames of fear and love has weakened my selfishness and joy has robbed worry of its power, there still comes a time, when in the solitude and silence of life, that we must look our weaknesses in the eye, call them by name …

In this family {Alita Jewel’s Mainiacs}

Welcome to part two of Writing Me, our community writing project intended to inspire our creativity collectively and individually.

During the next eight weeks — through the end of 2011 — we’ll be writing our In This Family prose.

In the house of the Mainiacs we…
In this house we create with unbridled imaginations…

In this house we whine, but say there is no whining.
We listen even when we aren’t really listening.
We pray, trust in, and love the almighty Father.
And hope that He is really listening, even when we do not.

In this house we are truthful.
It is in truth that we have real relationships, and without truth
there is no relationship.

In this house we say that we’re sorry if we mean it,
sometimes when we don’t. To spare feelings.
Because we all make mistakes.

In this house we try to try new things. But are forgiven if we don’t
really want to.

We remember what it is really like to be a child, and lead as an adult, but understand
where they are coming from, too.

In this house we laugh with unfettered abandon.
We joke, and kid around. Some of us were born comedians,
the rest of us just like to laugh.
Our laughter is the size of the moon,
just as bright, and it fills the world with more light.

In this house we make up things. We make up words,
we make up stories, pictures, songs, we make up with each other,
but most of all we are just making things up as we go along in this little life of ours.

In this house we apply lots of sunscreen.

In this house we see the bigger picture

In this house we clean up a lot of uh-oh’s

In this house we keep our promises.
dream big, but work harder.
don’t sweat the small stuff or worry about the small-minded people.

In this house we use good manners… most of the time… well except for thank you notes.

In this house we drink mass quantities of coffee. Mine with milk, his with sugar, and theirs as sips of liquid caffeine.

We champion the underdog.

We love Halloween, and dressing up, and telling scary stories.

In this house we accept things that we have no control over. But you better believe that if
we can change it we will … wait until tomorrow.

We procrastinate in this house. If it can be put off we will do so.

We don’t always clean our messes (me included) and we don’t always get along. We don’t say I can’t (for it isn’t in our vocabulary) and we never give up.

We are as loyal as can be and teach loyalty through actions and not words.

In this house there is always room for change. And yes, we break the rules…

We yell sometimes (We’re Italian what do you expect?) We talk with our hands, hearts, and
actions.

But most of all…

In this house

we cuddle, we hug, we kiss, and love unapologetically.

What do you do in your house?

The only real requirement for linking up with this meme is to write out your In This Family prose.

Also, we’ll be featuring three In This Family prose pieces here! Please email hyacynthworth{at}yahoo{dot}com if you would like to be featured here.
