BPReads: Wild Mind Chapter 3

We’re reading to become better writers, I hope you’ll join us on this journey! Details on the book club can be found under the Book Club Tab above. I will link each week’s discussion there as well.

Our first pick is Wild Mind: Living the Writer’s Life by Natalie Goldberg. If you want more information on Natalie and some video interviews with her please visit Open Road Media. Some of you asked, it is available in all versions of digital reader. See the Open Road Media site for details.

Chapter 3: Style

Short and Sweet a perfection your supposed to be on vacation not blogging read!

What I loved about this chapter was how short and sweet it was. Every single blogging conference I have been to or looked into going to seems to have some version of the chapter, finding your “voice” your style.

I like how she reminds us that it’s nothing complicated that it’s “Simple” & “Direct”.  That our style is simple it’s, how we digest the world around us, how we see things through the lens of our unique life and history.

Yet at the same time discovering our style means discovering who we are too. It requires us to “digest who we are” and own it.

If you need inspiration this week I would suggest a little exercise. Sit down in a crowded place, or think back through your day and just describe what you saw.

I am looking out  a large picture window with the sun shinning brightly of the lake and dancing across the waves like firecracker sin the night sky. There is a tall stately pine tree showing it’s age as it’s limbs bend and fall reaching for the water below. ….what do you see?

  1. My book just came today, I am starting to read now!!

  2. Don’t you just love what Natalie writes at the end of the chapter about style? She says, “Be who you are, breathe fully, be alive, and don’t forget to write.” I love that!
